This was supposed to be super-quick, but I got hung up and spent way too much time on it. My biggest problem is the gray wall – I just don’t know how to handle it. Also, I find that when I paint outdoors I am less careful about mixing colors because I want to go quickly, and I have to do it over and over, which of course takes more time. On top of that, I decided to use the little tubes of Bloxx paint that came with the pochade box – now I understand why people say to use good paint. I’ve been using big tubes of cheap (inexpensive) paints, but these are much worse. Impossible to mix a good dark green – all my mixtures went sort of milky.
The point of this exercise is to confront myself with as many problems as possible so that I can learn how to solve them, and today I realized that I’m only beginning this journey.
Anyway, this is number 21.
Hi guys – I’ve been away from the internet lately, but have done a bit of painting. The first one is a large canvas and I based it on a photo I took of a site in Turkey. My next project will be to do the same tree with the ruins of a temple to Zeus showing in the background – it was the most amazing place….
The second one is my first attempt at plein air on my own. I wasn’t brave at all – I stayed in the back yard. I found it complicated using my new pochade box (Julian and not recommended) The palette is so small and the wind picked up and kept blowing everything away. I had to re-do the statue a million times and I’m still not happy with it. Part of the difficulty is the fact that the background is a dull gray wall, but I’m sure that there’s a better way to handle it. Maybe this will become a series too!
So I’m up tp 20 – one-fifth of the way to my goal. Now if I could just stay put for a while….
